One of Willis Dady’s initiatives is the Outreach Food Bags program, which aims to help community members during challenging times. Here’s how this program works and how anyone can get involved.
The Emergency Shelter keeps a supply of food bags to ensure clients have access to food while they wait for federal benefits or food pantry access during the week. This helps provide nutrition during waiting periods. Additionally, when clients or community members visit the agency, they can get connected with local resources to find services effectively.
To support this initiative, Willis Dady Homeless Services is looking for donors to assemble Outreach Food Bags and drop them off at their shelter located at 1247 4th Ave SE.
Here’s a simple guide on how to create these food bags:
Grab a Ziploc Bag: Use a gallon-sized Ziploc bag for easy carrying and durability.
Include Non-Perishable, Nutritious Items:
Protein or granola bars: These are easy to carry and provide quick energy.
Beef jerky: A good source of protein that doesn’t require refrigeration.
Trail mix: A mix of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit can offer a balanced snack.
Cracker packs: Lightweight and non-perishable, perfect for quick snacks.
Fruit snacks: Easy to pack and provide a quick sugar boost.
Cans or packets of chicken or tuna: Provide substantial protein and are easy to store
People interested in participating should either purchase the supplies or host a donation drive to collect them. If you need help coordinating this, please reach out to our Community Engagement Manager at sierra@willisdady.org.
