Willis Dady Homeless Services Statement of Literal Homelessness 2021

Willis Dady acknowledges that homelessness is a systemic issue that has always existed in Cedar Rapids and has been exacerbated due to the pandemic and derecho, and is therefore visible to the public eye for the first time. Since the closure of the community overflow shelter in June 2021, our team has remained committed to engaging with individuals sleeping outside. As the primary street outreach program in our community, we remain dedicated to providing emergency response case management, housing services, and access to basic needs to over 100 individuals sleeping outside while all shelters remain at capacity. We recognize this will continue to be an increasing issue unless the lack of affordable housing is addressed in this community. Willis Dady is actively working with our City and County officials alongside other homeless service providers to advocate for supportive and affordable housing in our community. Willis Dady believes that all individuals have the right to safe, stable housing.
